What is NVR?
NVR stands for Non-Violent Resistance. The NVR Parenting Approach was originally developed to support parents and carers to support children presenting with behaviours that concern, such as violence, risk-taking, aggression or self-destruction. The NVR approach is now being used in a variety of contexts including adoption, communities, SEND, schools and with adults in both one to one and group work settings. Specialist adaptations of NVR can be used with anxiety, neurodiversity, eating disorders, digital world and more.
Where do I start?
All NVR UK accredited training begin with a Foundation Course, Level 1. This three-day course covers the basic strategies that allow participants use NVR in their everyday practice. Level two builds upon this foundation preparing practitioner to run groups and apply NVR to more specialist areas as outlined above. To become an NVR Accredited Practitioner level 3 must be undertaken, this is an assessed course and takes six to eight months to complete.
We understand that staff move on, and this can leave a gap in NVR delivery. Here at NVR Innovations, we are committed to organisations becoming self-sufficient without the need to keep buying in external trainers. Therefore we have developed a train the trainer package, Level 4A – to train level 1, 4B – to train level 2 and 4C – to train level 3, so we can train your staff to train others.
Does NVR only work with children?
Originally, NVR was designed as a parenting approach, but it has been adapted and applied to dependent adults and adults with learning needs. Additionally, it has been used with groups of children and youths to help address bullying and general school difficulties.
NVR can also be used within communities to unite and work together to overcome local problems.
